Valparaiso was the disembarkation point for our cruise. We'd scheduled a few extra days here and in Santiago, these plus a couple of days in Buenos Aires rounded our trip out to just about 3 weeks.

Valparaiso is first and foremost a fishing town. Normally we think of "fishing towns" as being, well, towns — call this a fishing city. It's Chile's largest port — so think more "Rotterdam", than "Gloucester". It's a little scrappy, a little rough around the edges. But Kathy chose an excellent (if small...) bed & breakfast up in the hills. We had a great view and easy access. Nearby "Valpo" is Vina del Mar — a resort community just about 15 minutes by train. We went there for about half a day; worth a visit but undistinguished as a resort get-away.
