We've been to a number of places in Asia; Scott's job for about 6 years was to support the Asia region (southeast Asia in particular) for the telecom companies he worked for. This means traveling between the east coast of the US to southeast Asia (usually Singapore) about every six weeks. Favorites are Thailand and Indonesia. I (Scott) think Singapore is a great place to visit, but after the first 20 times or so it starts to look like an Asian version of Disneyland. However, Singapore is relatively inexpensive, has great, cheap food everywhere, equatorial weather, very low crime rate. If you're headed that direction for the first time, check it out!
