"This community is unique," he adds. "There are very few [places] in the world where you can walk down a sidewalk and see a couple of guys in buttless chaps, followed by a little old lady pulling her grocery cart, followed by a man, a woman and a baby carriage, followed by a couple of lesbians holding hands, followed by a junkie with a shopping cart full of stolen goodies -- and everybody gets along. It's really a neat, diversity melting pot, probably one of the most unique anywhere."
