Kathy and I met in the late 1980s (in our early 30s), and over the course of the next 10 years or so, executed on a shared strategy to retire around age forty. It didn't quite work out that way, we were both having a pretty good time at our jobs, and we getting paid royally. But life has a way of telling you it's time to make a change, and in mid-April of 2001(?) we both lost our jobs within a day or so of one another. We took the leap, and started down the path of Early Retirement, making steps that most people ultimately do -- usually by necessity rather than design (for example, moving to a smaller home).
We can't say that we've done everything right. We're learning as we go along, which for us, seems the ultimate purpose of life anyway. However, we feel that our experiences are applicable to many other folks with similiar interests. And helping others... well, that seems to be another purpose in life.
So, this section discuss some of how we came to be retired in our 40s, and, how you might be too. It isn't about having a lot of money, particularly. It's about making honest choices about what is important as you progress in your life.
